WESTERN Sydney’s hotels, restaurants and attractions are preparing for a busy October as major sporting and entertainment events draw visitors to the region.
The NSW Government expects its statewide events calendar to inject more than $100 million into the visitor economy, although it has not released a separate forecast for Western Sydney.
The NRL and NRLW Grand Finals will open the month at Accor Stadium on Sunday, October 4, with more than 80,000 supporters expected in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct.
The stadium will also host an international rugby quadruple-header on October 17, culminating in the Wallabies’ Bledisloe Cup clash with New Zealand. K-pop group BIGBANG is scheduled to perform there on 31 October.
The 2026 Rugby League World Cup begins on October 15, with 16 matches scheduled across Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong. Organisers expect the tournament to attract more than 32,000 fans to NSW and contribute over $19M to the state’s visitor economy.
The concentration of events gives Western Sydney operators an opportunity to encourage visitors to stay locally and explore beyond the stadium.
That could mean combining a match or concert with accommodation, dining and attractions across the region.
NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper said the events would bring “thousands of visitors and millions of dollars” into the state’s visitor economy while supporting local businesses and jobs.
Destination NSW chief executive Karen Jones said major events often prompted a trip, but visitors could stay longer to experience more of NSW.
